The celebrated architect of the Modern Movement created two projects that were very different in nature, but very similar in terms of the ideals and ambitions that led to their creation.
At the heart of the new urban complex of “Firminy-Vert”, creation of architects who were trained in the theories of modern urbanism, Le Corbusier built one housing Unit, a Maison de la Culture and a sports stadium.
Created according to his original plans and completed in 2006, the church of Saint-Pierre puts the finishing touches to this Le Corbusier site which is an excellent example of the original political and artistic project: using culture and architectural quality to create genuine political tools that are universally useful.
